Conference Organisers

ICASA 2019 is organised by The Society for AIDS In Africa (SAA), the custodian of ICASA, and the Government of Rwanda

Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA) was founded in 1989 by a group of African scientists, activists and advocates. The establishment of the Society was the result of advocacy by African scientists, started in 1988, for the ICASA conference to be organised by Africans– a cause supported by the then Director of WHO, Dr. Peter Piot. This movement eventually led to the establishing of SAA,a non-governmental- and not-for-profit organisation. Founding members of the SAA were: Prof. Mboup from Senegal, Prof. Kaptue from Cameroon, Dr. Okware from Uganda, Prof. Soyinka from Nigeria, Prof. Kadio and Prof. Gershey-Damet from Côte d’Ivoire, Dr. Patrick and Dr. B. Owili from Kenya, Dr. Mpele from Congo Brazzaville, Dr. Kalenganyi and Dr. Kapita from DR Congo, Prof. Mhalu from Tanzania, Prof. Luo from Zambia, Prof. Latif from Zimbabwe, Dr. Abdulrahman Sow from Mauritania, Dr. Philip Kanki from the USA, Prof. Benslimane from Morocco, Dr. Mohamoud from Sudan and Prof. Zribi from Zimbabwe.
